All --

Hike, Toad and I received a pm from Geoff today - Sixx's Dad...Sixx is clearly the man he is, because of the love of his Dad (and Mom)...His parents mean the world to him!...

I thought this was very appropriate to share with all of you -- Sixx's extended family here at RWG...

Love ya, Sixx!...

Rob

*******************************

Hi guy's,

I'm Geoff, Sixx's Father, or the thievin bas**rd, as I believe I'm sometimes known!! He has asked me to sign in and send you guys a message to let you know how he is, I know how much you guy's mean to him, so it's understandable. I also have to get addresses and such to send out packages that he had promised other members. We have asked him to calm down and to see to himself, but, as always, he has to live up to anything he has promised!!

Anyway, he took a fairly bad hit last week, he has several broken ribs and more fractures and breaks to his middle back. He isn't in the best of ways right now and we have thought it best to bring his laaptop home and to try and make him rest. He is pretty heavily sedated at the moment and doped to the eyeballs with Morphine to try and keep his pain at a managable level, I have no idea how he even remembered peoples names let alone what watches they were to get and who had to be messaged, the amount of drugs they have pumped into him should have floored an elephant!! But he was insistant that you guys got the info as to what is going on with him. Oh, also, he said to say hi to Mike and Bruce, I don't recall their screen names I'm afraid, old age doesn't come alone!!

I would just like to take this oppertunity to thank you guys for the friendship and huge support you have shown Stuart (Sixx), life isn't easy for him at the best of times, but this setback has really hurt him!! The fact that he is demanding that you be updated as to how he is, is a very good indicator as to the high regard he holds you all in. I know how much he loves this place and his friends made from it!! All the effort and help you give him via your friendship is greatly appreciated by my wife and I, it's so nice to know he has good friends who care about him and for us to see that sparkle in his eye back! I think he would appreciate it if you guys were kind of vague as to the injuries he's suffered, he is one of the most pig headed people I know and he hates for people to know how badly he hurts sometimes! But I got the feeling that he knew that you guys would want the full report!!

Thank you again, from both my wife and myself!!
Regards
Geoff

This is for all the 40+ guys out there

First off if this post is inappropriate for this forum, mods feel free to delete or move. Since it is a general discussion forum, I thought this would be the best place to post

This post is directed at all you forum members, male over age 40. Although I’m sure a tremendous number of our members are below that age, I also am pretty sure that there are quite a few over 40’s around here.

One of the most overlooked diseases of males is Prostate Cancer, always thought in the past to be a disease that only struck very old men, usually in the 70th decade. Well guys, that isn’t true. More and more younger men, especially those in the 50th decade are being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Why am I writing this? Well simply put I am a victim! I am a health care professional with over 33 years of administering Anesthesia. I have always taken good care of myself, outside drinking wine and an occasional cigar, I pretty much don’t have any health related vices. I weigh about 163 and at 5’9” I’m within my normal weight range for my age.

For at least the last 10 years, I have had an annual physical exam, including a PSA level. About two months ago, I had my physical as usual. My internist who I see practically every day, called me with the news that my PSA was up a little from the past year. Actually 3.24, which in most cases would be normal for my age. It had jumped from about 2.19 the previous year however. He recommended I see a Urologist for further workup. Just so happened one of my best buds is a Urologist. He scheduled me for and office visit for another PSA as well as digital exam (the dreaded Rectal exam) After the exam, he told me he felt a mass that was pretty hard on one side of my prostate. Follow up was a Prostate biopsy the next week. Of course, he told me, “probably isn’t anything, but we need to know”.

The prostate biopsy came back positive on 3 of 12 specimens. Options were Open prostate surgery only as my CT scan which was done a week later showed the nodule to be close to the bladder neck in an area that did not respond well to Cesium seed implants and External beam radiation. My radiation Oncologist who read the CT ruled out Seed implants when he told me"if this were my Cancer, I would have surgery". Pretty strong words from a guy who makes his living doing Radiation Oncology.

Well, here I sit, 8 days post op, feeling pretty good, but still wearing a catheter in my bladder, which will come out in a few more days. I’m looking forward to that!!

The positive, in my case, complete removal of the prostate with CA confined to the prostate only, no positive lymph nodes or invasion to surrounding tissue. So I should be cured.

The negative, this is a life changing operation, especially if the surgeon has to remove some of the nerves that run next to the prostate. Some degree of urinary incontinence, and most certainly some degree of erectile dysfunction.

What I’m trying to impart on all of you fellows out there, if your over 40, have any family history of Prostate CA, or African American descent, you need to get yearly PSA’s as well as a digital exam. It takes 15 seconds for the exam, and it could save your life. My Urologist friend tells me that in the 15 years he has been practicing, the ages of men with prostate CA have been steadily dropping. Caught early, it’s easily treatable with several options, late it’s a monster of a disease that will eventually kill you.You can read tons of studies that say it's not worth having PSA's done in the 40th decade, some even say in the 50th decade. Well ignore this disease at your own peril. Had I had a digital exam every year along with a PSA, I'm sure this would have been discovered 3-4 years ago, with more treatment options. Don't wait, it's your life and your health

Some reps that I have owned in the past

I've owned some amazing and not-so-amazing reps over the years. I have traded or gave away most of them. Not because they had flaws or annoyances but simply because they never received enough wrist time in my watch rotation. Here's a few of them (and a few thoughts about them). Actually I'm a bit embarrassed how loopsided and "mainstream" my past and present watches have been... not much variation or imagination.

Actually I have owned many, many more (50+ reps actually) but these are just something that I found from my Photobucket album.

Most of these watches have been reviewed in my section (click my signature).

Rolex Yacht-Master

I owned a budget version of the excellent "Noob" YM, from Narikaa. One of the best purchases I've had, the value was amazing. I gave it away to Takashi because he worked on my rep GMT. I dunno, YM simply doesn't do it for me. Beautiful watch but too flashy and garish. Of course the WM9 version Yachtie is in the league of its own but the Noob version ain't too shabby, either. Very good cheaper alternative.

Tudor Military Sub MBW

This came from an old school seller, Watchmaster/Kenzo. It was a Tudor Snowflake dial installed on a standard MBW 5513 case. Pretty nice and I guess this was the first snowflake rep owned by a forum member. Nothing compared to the incredible frankens that some members have built recently, but nice watch anyway. I traded it pretty quickly as I'm not a huge vintage Rolex guy. Call me crazy but I simply don't like the plastic protruding crystal.

TAG Link Chronograph 7750

One of my most popular rep reviews. According to one major dealer, this particular model sold sh*tloads. Loved this watch, and especially the bracelet. But the lack of AR made the dial extremely reflective. Old gen Link doesn't have AR, either but the dial was so reflective that it was actually difficult to read time occasionally. But one of these days I'm getting myself a new generation gen Link... as I said the bracelet is superb.

TAG Aquaracer Chronograph Day-Date

My favorite chronograph, rep or gen. I sold this because I got the gen. As you can see the SEL on my watch wasn't too stellar. I managed to fix it (partially) later though.

Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow Venus

One of my all time favorites. This belongs to my brother now so I see it at least every month. Loved this rep and I wish it was still available. Not the most accurate one, but has lots of "spirit". I still get PMs about this watch from new members occasionally. Funny.

Rolex Submariner WM9 v1 aka "Perfect Sub" by Precious Time

Sold this excellent replication because I upgraded to v2. Actually this is one the few reps that I regret selling (at least a bit). Loved the "Flat S" dial and it had the best SELs I've ever seen on a Rolex replica. I installed WM9 v1 SELs on my v2 too. Much nicer.

Rolex Submariner "TW Best"

This was "hot stuff" when Phil Collins still had lots of hair. Yes compared to WM9 it's pretty horrible but many considered this the best OTB modern Sub rep in its day. You newbies are spoiled, lol! Too bad I can't find photos of my old CN versions. But then again maybe it's better that way...

Rolex "Noobmariner"

Actually I owned both ETA and Asian versions. The cheap, original $100 Noobmariner without the terrible, misaligned rehaut engraving is still very, very decent Sub for the money.

Rolex Explorer II CN version correct hand stack white

Easily forgettable. Maybe the worst and the most disappointing rep I have owned. There is nothing good to say about this POS. The CHS movement stopped a few times every hour (seconds hand got stuck) and the horrible light grey hour markers truly pissed me off. Fortunately the good dealer agreed to take it back. Good riddance. BEWARE: Some dealers still offer this piece of junk... I wouldn't take one for free.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u214/tp2112/w_dial.jpg

Rolex Explorer II CN version correct hand stack black

Actually the dealer swapped my whitey to this one. Much, much better dial, and a working CHS movement. Great crown but cyclops/date positioned too right just like on all CN versions. But still, this is a half-decent rep actually.

Rolex Explorer II "Noobfactory" version black WHS

The best OTB ExpII replica there is, and definitely among the top-5 Rolex replicas ever. The one without infamous, horrible Noobfactory rehaut engraving (do I repeat myself, sorry). Stunning. Traded it quickly because I collected funds to my PP for a gen purchase. And I still have my white franken so the black one didn't get enough wrist rotation. The watch on the picture has gen crown installed, default crown is terrible.

Rolex Day-Date

Of course the gen is made of white gold and the rep is laughably light in comparison. The blue dial was off too (what a surprise). I never owned it, a dealer sent it to me for a review as I was curious to see it. When I put it on I felt almost embarrassed how small it looked on me so I asked my girlfriend (now wifey) to pose me a few review wrist shots.

Rolex TT Sub Noobfactory ETA

Still the best and nicest TT Sub I've seen. And I've had the CN version, the TW version and the MBW version. I'm sure the upcoming WM9 model will be the king but this is definitely a nice rep... the best "wrapped" one, that is... which has the gold layered ok over the end link. I think BK still offers this one.

Rolex TT Submariner MBK

Expensive rep with sloppy finishing and details. Look at that nasty glue crawling under the insert! On top of that it had the terrible rehaut engraving. Very nice tone on the blue dial though.

"Reduced" Venus Speedmaster

I bought this one from a member sale. It was dirt cheap back then when members still didn't have nerve to ask dealer prices for their old beaters. Mostly a fantasy model but quite nice at that. I mean, those transparent Venus casebacks can't be beaten. Love 'em! Actually I didn't even remember that I owned this one. Damn you can make revelations when you scroll your old Photobucket.

Ultimate Planet Ocean "UPO"

Very nice rep, even by today's standards. Initially I liked it but the honeymoon turned out to be quite short. Lack of 2XAR and the overall clumsy wrist presence didn't do it for me so I traded it rather quickly. I have owned a few big 45mm watches but this wore the biggest. I'm a Omega fan through and through but UPO is not for me. It could have worked with the rubber strap but the rep strap came after I had traded mine.

Planet Ocean 4th Generation 42mm

Loved this but the bracelet was very low quality. I was actually able to bend the clasp metal with my fingers! The rep was nice but SEL and pearl were off and there was no AR. I just recalled that I owned the 3rd Generation PO too... but I couldn't find the pics anymore. I guess they got buried with the original RWG1. The "base rep" is nothing special but it's possible to build a fantastic franken around this model. Ubi and Dluddy (and I recall Lani too) have amazing versions.

Omega Seamaster Black GMT

This one I loved. It came with Asian 21J movement and I bought it from Wackobirdkeeper for $95. Total bargain and surprisingly accurate rep. On this photo I have it on a Bond bracelet (that's what the early black GMT's came with). Eventually I traded this too but I don't remember why. Some kind of impulse move I guess... I wanted the improved ETA version that never came.

Old School MBW "Red" Submariner 1680

When I came to rep forums, everyone was raving about MBW's and "how amazing they are and how difficult they are to source". MBW was almost mythical figure. Palpatine aka "Palp" was a good forum friend of mine and he got one for me straight from Maria. He did amazing work with the hour markers and "vintagized" it. But then I learned more about the vintage Sub and realized how completely and utterly inaccurate the red version replica is. The dial is just totally off. These watches are incredible franken-bases though... but their reputation as "amazing replicas OTB" is just as outdated as last month's newspaper. If you want a good vintage Sub, avoid the red version, that's my advice. And as stated earlier, I'm not a huge vintage Rolex guy anyway...

Rolex GMT Master II "TW Best"

I had a long and desperate chase to find the "perfect GMT". I should have bought the gen immediately and not waste my time with reps. Not that the 16710 reps aren't good... no, I had many decent ones. But when you have a "grail watch" it's only frustrating to seek perfection from the Chinese wonders. This one for starters... it was the "TW Best" model. Very nicely built watch but not terribly accurate... and expensive to boot. I also had a two "CN" versions of the 16710 but couldn't find the pictures.

"Retro" GMT Master II from Joshua

This watch had flaws too, but like the TW version, it possessed extremely good quality feel. I traded it to a good forum friend. This was the best there was (before the corrected "Noob" version came out".)

Noobfactory "BK" GMT Master II

This is still the best one out there. The initial versions had Explorer II sized ROLEX printing & coronet on the dial but when it was fixed I had to get one. Best case and best base for a franken without a doubt. I still can recommend this model to everyone. Great rep, I owned four (yes FOUR) of these. One was with correct hand stack and it eventually broke. I gave the POS to my mate Mystery Modder. Maybe he managed to use some spare parts from it.

Rolex GMT Master II "Ceramic"

Nice rep and everything. Very popular model. Not that I disliked it but as Neil once put it "it was boring like a rainy afternoon in Belgium" (sorry Stephane). I traded it pretty quickly. Good riddance.

Ebel 1911 Chronograph Quartz

Now this one brings back some memories. One of my first reps, purchased from Richard Lawton's endless collection. Very, very nice quartz rep. Of course the gen sports an inhouse Modulor movement and cheapy quartz can't compare... but flaws don't really matter on lesser known brands that much, imho. I have always loved the classic 1911 chronograph and if there was a two-tone version of this rep available, I'd buy it without hesitation... even today.

Ebel 1911 BTR Quartz

There was no BTR rep so the membership was getting anxious. Narikaa had a nice cure for the disease. A cheapie quartz version. Inaccurate as hell and way too slim, but I actually liked it a lot. For a few days. Rep collecting can be fun too... it's not just an obsessive journey to find the most accurate one. This is another watch that I had completely forgotten though.

Breitling SFSO Blue from the initial batch

Here's a bit "overcontrasted on purpose" artsy photo of my old favorite. Superb, superb replication. I sold it because I thought I had a sealed deal on a gen.

Breitling SFSO Black

Couldn't find a gen immediately so I had to get another rep SFSO to cease the pain. Superb replica just like the blue version. Then I eventually found the gen and traded it (just recently).

Breitling Navitimer Old Asian 7750, Serie Speciale old rep version

When I came to rep forums I didn't like the Navitimer at all. But tastes change and I purchased this one through a member trade. Nice one but had some fundamental flaws, like polished case and bracelet (for starters). The bracelet with all links intact was small and tight enough to stop my blood flow so I gave it away (I think).

Breitling Navitimer "Tricompax" two-tone

Now this one I loved. Truly a beautiful piece and still the best gold rep I have owned. I traded it because it simply didn't fit my wrist, plus was too lazy to start searching for the extra links. And like all gold watches that I've owned it had the same destiny: They're just "too much", you know... but definitely a lovely rep.

Omega Seamaster "Bond"

Now this is my most worn rep. I wore it weekly for 4 years and loved it. This is from the old batch and had the superb bracelet. Traded it because I eventually bought the gen. Bond Seamaster is just... well... perfect.

Audemars Piguet Seven Sails

I think this was a fantasy model. But PT was selling this for a discount so I grabbed one because I wanted to see how I like AP. I was in two minds about it, and since I'm not a strap guy so I traded it too.

Ebel BTR 7750

The best quality replica I have owned (built quality wise). Period. Incredible bracelet, incredible finish and details. Yeah the subdials are off, etc. but who cares. This is highly recommended if you want an impressive watch, rep or gen. Traded this for a gen purchase but also because I thought I wanted a gen version. Now I have changed my mind and I think I will source another rep BTR later. A stunner... amazing!

I have recently started to get to know Nikki6. An extraordinary character. Those who know him will understand what I mean.

Nikki6 is, as I write, en route to hospital due to a bad fall last week where he's done some damage to himself.

For those who know him it may be a wee moral booster for him to receive a few words of support, tho I guess he'll be away from his computer / e.mails for a period of time.

Meanwhile here just to say that I hope it's nothing that can't be sorted quickly, and so "get well soon" bud.

112 Shipped w/ Cracked Caseback Crystal

[mods this might be in the wrong area, if so please recategorize, sorry]

My new PAM 112 arrived today with some damage. I am turning to the forum for advice on the sellers proposed resolutions for the watch's defect.

Upon receiving my new PAM, there is an issue with the crystal case back. The watch was well protected in double bubble wrap & secured in the package with no external damage noticable. That said, there is a hairline crack in the back crystal that runs almost 180 degrees around (half moon shape), appx 1mm parallel to the steel casing. Pics will be posted in the next day or two, I do not have access to a digital camera at the moment.

The seller has offered two solutions:
"1st: we will give you 5% discount for your next order
2nd: we ship you a new caseback, but you have to pay for the shippment cost. but the precise is when we see the pic and confirmed the crystal back has a crack."

My concerns:
I've already paid $XX's to ship the watch the first time. It's going to cost me to ship a replacement caseback?
Once the caseback arrives, i'll need to take it in for someone to service/replace it for me. I don't know how much it will be to have them do the work, but this is all starting to add up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Rob

Thanks for all of your time!

Chopard 150th Anniversary Collection:- L.U.C. The Tribute.

Watchmaking literature mentions a patent filed by Karl Scheufele I, the founder of Eszeha, the original Scheufele family company, who is today the proud owner of Chopard. The patent is about a 1912 ingenious system allowing a pocket-watch to be worn on the wrist.

The 2010 limited edition version of this innovative watch "enshrines a century and a half of Chopard's horological heritage" and is obviously both a pocket-watch and a wristwatch, a fitting tribute to Louis-Ulyssse from the Chopard watchmaking family.

Acrylic crystal experiment (ageing/yellowing)

After visiting a mobile roadshow of antique watches and seeing some great looking rolex subs with yellow patina tinted crystals
i started thinking of ways to age/yellow an acrylic crystal to fit to one of my "aged" rolex subs the problem with natural (sun) yellowing of the crystal is that apart from taking too long, this usually makes the crystal crack and brittle which will affect water resistance of the watch, so i took the idea used to age a dial by using varnish.

I decided to experiment on a spare crystal ,because the crystal needs to be clear enough to be able to see the dial i used a varnish spray with a tinting property in this case i used colorworks (teak) wood varnish spray here are some photos showing my results!

I'd like to bring in my SOSF to get the seals coated and to have it pressure tested. I read in a recent post that one member had his SOSF tested to 30bar which should translate to about 330 meters. It's amazing to me that a rep could achieve this depth rating! Discussion of the wisdom of diving with a replica aside, what's the best depth rating you've ever achieved with a rep in the lab? What's the deepest you've taken it in the ocean? I'm keen to know which rep is the king of the sea!

Best Reps of 2009?

I remember that on 2007 and 2008, this was a topic that would come out around December of that year. I was looking forward to reading it this last year, but I have not been able to find one using the "search" button. Was this even discussed? Anyone know where I could find the topic. I'm planning on increasing my rep collection in the next few months and this would be a very useful guide. Thanks.

PS - Is the Rolex DSSD "Ultimate" (I don't remember what version it is) destined to be among the best of 2010? I originally purchased the one with the "incorrect 10" and then sold it and purchased one with the correct bezel. Well, the first one lost 6 seconds per day, consistently - even after being heavily used for two weeks (long distance running, gym, shower, pool, etc.). The latest one I purchased - with the correct bezel - is keeping incredible accuracy: It has consistently gained one second per day (it's the ETA movement). I just wish they had individual serial numbers.

RWG is still the original RWG ?

Recently I come across post that "appear" to be stating that RWG is a "copy" of RWG1... I was always under the understanding that we are and always have been the only RWG with the same Admin from the days of Thomas starting a web site for replica collecting.. and that the domain change was only a bump in the road and one domain was sold..

Aren't we still the "Original" RWG ?? how can we be a secondary copy if the original member that started this whole replica collecting forums still be out Admin ??

Not meaning to step on any feet, but the statement of RWG"1" and "this" RWG needs to be understood.. least members think that we are not the original..

If I sell a watch or car I don't "own" it anymore.. but I was the "original owner".. no ????

I just think for all that Admin has done for this hobby this needs to be cleared up ..

21 jewel chronograph?

Hi, I', putting another watch order in soon w/ my dealer and I saw i watch I really like, but it is a chronograph model and claims to only have a 21 jewel auto movement.

My only Chrono watch currently is a BCE which has a clone 7750...everything works perfect including chrono functions.

Now typically, i see 7750 movements or quarts for chrono reps, but seldom 21 jewel movmements.

My question is, will a 21 jewel movement give enough juice for chrono functions to work? Or will all the subdials just be for show on this watch?

FWIW, here is the watch in question:

Whats wrong with some common sense and courtesy!

So,

Recently I have sold of some stuff here on the Fora to fund projects I am working on.

And selling stuff is not easy as you know.

I do try to accommodate everyones wishes, also I try to sell to the ones who contacted me first showing interest. It seems fair to start with the one asking first then moving down to the second and so on…. Only time I do not follow this is when the buyer seems unreasonable, then I let them know that I have no interest in doing any business with them.

Many have requests to get more photos of the watch in certain angles etc and I do take my time to snap new ones.

But it bothers me a little when I have taken my time to do some new photos as requested and
I send them and let them know via PM that I have sent new pictures and even tell them: Please, get back to me even if you do not want to proceed. Just to let me know as there are other people interested on hold.

A simple thanks but no thanks would do the trick…. But some people don’t even take the time to so.

It just makes me a little frustrated.

But after this rant, I feel better again

Happy friday everyone!!!

Cheers

Your oldest surviving rep?

I don't want to hear about the DateJust that you bought 1986 from Thailand. Or the crappy CN Sub that you bought from someone... and can't sell it because it's so crappy by today's standards. I mean the oldest surviving quality rep. A nice one that you still own and wear regularly.

Mine is the Omega Seamaster Chronograph from 2006, from Eddie Lee, with perfect ETA datefont. Lots of reps (60-70) have come and gone, many of them have been replaced with gens. But this stays for good (unless I buy a gen, which is highly unlikely). It's THAT good.

The newer versions have inferior dials. I consider this one of the best reps, ever. A kind member promised to send me a gen insert so it's going to be even better.

I haven't been here in a while. Having a super great time reading all the new posts and looking at all the new pics. Getting ready for my move to London, England in about two months.
Anyhoo...I was wondering if anybody in the GTA area of Ontario knows if you can buy NATO straps in an actual store, and not online.

I would appreciate any help at all.

What About Bob?

I have often purchased straps for my reps from BOB, and I have always been happy with his products and service. I noticed that BOB is no longer on this forum, and I also noticed that there seems to be a dearth of product offerings on the BOB website. I want to buy a 22mm Breitling-style tan calfskin deployant strap, and BOB has none.

I hope he's not winding down his business or is otherwise strapped. Sorry for the pun! I need the calfskin tan strap and he's the only source I know besides my Breitling AD!

Review: Montblanc Sport Chronograph

The Montblanc Sport Chronograph

Sino-German Underdog Extraordinaire

Although this watch has been around for a little while, it really hasn't garnered the fanfare it deserves. The definitive review was written by Swatchman in March of 08. I didn't see Lanakai's striking review of this watch until a few months ago and have been thinking about the watch ever since. I saw him bump the thread a few months later to give it additional visibility. Since Lanakai has handled a few hundred replicas in the past few years, I figured that the Montblanc sport must be something special. Boy is it. I was sufficiently impressed by it that I wanted to write a review to give this bad boy some more visibility.

I think this is one of the most underrated reps available. It's way better than my Porikka. This is the first replica that I've held that was completely convincing to me. Even with the SOSF, as good as it is, you can still just kind of tell that it's not the real thing even though you can't quite put your finger on why. This watch has the fit and finish to be genuinely convincing. I'll donate $10 to RWG in the name of the first person who can find a flaw with the dial, bezel, engraving, case, or crown. No kidding.

I took the liberty of tracking down some gen pics off the web for comparison purposes. If you find pics of a gen that show a flaw I haven't found, please post them.

Dial:
The dial is very nearly flawless. I say very nearly because although I can't find a single flaw, there must be something amiss. I just haven't been able to find anything yet! A gold star to the first person that can find a flaw with the dial! If you find one, post the flaw and I'll update the review an acknowledge your contribution!

Lume:
The lume is slightly greenish on this watch whereas the gen I've have seen in person had white lume. Strangely though, when I look at the watch on the montblanc website, it looks like the lume has the same greenish hue. I personally prefer the way the watch looks with the greenish lume. It's really striking.

The good news: Functionally, the lume is very good for a rep. Above average but it doesn't have the same longevity as super-lume. Each of the lume triangles is centered exactly, and I mean exactly, in the center of each of the triangles. Not one lume marker is off by 1/10 of a mm off center. I read a review from a few years ago that suggest that lume application wasn't as good as on the gen. I can't imagine how mine could be better. Perhaps they improved it. I wish the SOSF had this kind of quality control!

Hands:
The hands are also very nearly perfect. The shape and size of the hands are truly remarkable. Even the star on the chrono second hand is top notch. I can't find a flaw. A gold star to anyone who can show one!

Bezel:
Once again, the bezel is almost perfect. I can't find a single flaw. A gold star to anyone who can!

Datefont: Alas, the datefont is not correct. Additionally, as Swatchman indicates, the view finder does not magnify as much as the gen.

Pearl: The pearl on this is a bit off. If you look closely at the photos above, you'll note that the pearl is slightly larger on the replica than on the gen. Also, it's not luminous like the gen although the odds of anyone noticing this in the dark are a bit slim. Why is it always the pearl that causes problems in replication? Seems like it should be a pretty easy thing to replicate. In any event, it is a difference you could only see if you were really looking for it in the dark and had a genuine side by side for comparison.

Bracelet:
I really love the bracelet on this thing. It feels really solid and German engineering tight. The solid end links are not just great, they are perfect within fractions of a mm. Swatchman indicated that the bracelet had sharp edges. I don't find it to be all that sharp. It certainly isn't uncomfortable. To the extent that mine has any sharpness, its something you can only tell when you press down hard with your finger and rub back and forth. It's not something that I notice while wearing it. I'm curious to know if the original reviewer was just unlucky or perhaps they've resolved the problem at the factory in the intervening 2 years.

Bracelet Star: The star on the bracelet is not engraved into the side but rather countersunk and affixed. The fit is good enough that I didn't notice it until Swatchman pointed it out in his review. I take some comfort in the fact that Pix didn't either. This doesn't really bother me however because it isn't apparent visually at all. I'm going to have to go to the AD to take a second look at the gen to see whether its engraved or affixed.

Engraving:
The engraving is simply amazing. I'm not sure you could find a flaw with a loupe. Same deal applies: if you find a flaw, post it below and I'll update the review. There's no way that the engraving could be completely perfect.

Crown: I can't find a single flaw. Let us know if you can! The star on Swatchman's crown was offset by 1/10 of mm. Mine might be as well but I can't see it with the naked eye and I've looked really hard. Please note that I'm not talking about the shape or dimensions of the crown guard itself, (which is perfect within fractions of a millimeter). I'm talking about the star logo at the end of the crown which may or may not be accurate within 1/10 of a millimeter!

Caseback: I had trouble finding a picture of a gen caseback. It's so shiny that it's really hard to photograph. Just the same, it looks just about perfect. The primary difference that I see is that it lists the model number whereas the gen does not. I'm not sure if this is a version issue or a legitimate flaw. You can bet I'll be going to the AD to find out!

All in all this is a great replication and a truly beautiful watch. If you like the looks of it, try it out at your local AD. If it suits you, buy the rep. This is one watch where you won't be disappointed.

What do "you" expect from Reps ?

My thought's in posting this topic are many.. but mainly.. what is it "you" expect from a "Replica".. keping in mind that a replica will never be 1:1 with a genuine..some may be very close .. but "No Cigar".

When I first started on the "Journey' with reps. I remember being so excited that flaws did not even enter my mind.. then evolving to more detail in my purchases.. and again evolving into the base of this hobby (IMHO) of building or .. at least sourcing parts to be built.. to acquire "franken" reps.. that come closer to the real deal.. and along the way realizing that this is much more rewarding than waiting for that perfect rep that will probably never come.
And gaining more joy and reward than buying a genuine to meet "expectations".

If "Expectation" being the buzz word.. after all we are dealing with "copies".. "Reps".. "Fakes" whatever euphemism you care to use..

Reps have come a long way but sill never .. for a mirage of reasons (real or theorized)be exactly like the genuine.. some flaws being more glaring than others..

Every once in awhile.. I come to the question of my involvement in this hobby..where I need to take a step back, after looking at my collection.. and seeing the watches that have engulfed my over the years.. it comes down to the community and not so much the timepiece..

And at times wondering if we expect too much from the makers.. and forgetting what we are dealing with.. sonce some of the reps have risen in price .. and then recently seeing a drop in pricing points..

I'm just rambling now.. But what is your take on "Reps" and expectations ???

Thanks in advance..
Longstanding member with many transactions under his belt...

But then deals go bad...

We've learned over time to be patient in these situations because once the plug is pulled on the member, the chances of those who are owed receiving their monies/goods are greatly diminished...

But the time has come with Asim...

We had some communication with him a few weeks back...

Thought we had helped mediate a solution...

But then all communication went dark again...

After multiple attempts, the decision has been made to pull the plug...

We just have the basics of information on him - the same we have on each of you from when you joined the forum...

But will be more than happy to share it with those that have outstanding deals with...

In the end though, you probably have more personal info than us because you've dealt with him...
Tough deal for all who were left hangin'...
this is a question i'm thinking over a long time.
why aren't there any quartz watches with a sweeping second hand? As far as i understand this, an automatik movement makes around 8 beats per second, a quartz movement only one. so why isn't it possible to build a quartz movement with 28800 bph?

RWG watch from way back?...Old forum

I've been away quite a while so its good to be back. Noticed many of the same old names from before. The thing that brings me back is my RWG watch from the old forum. I received it after what seemed like forever and doubting that I would ever see it due to the circumstances at the time. However it never ran for more than a few seconds before stopping and actually moving backward a few seconds. Not wanting to pay to have it looked at I put it back in the box where it sat until I found it a couple months ago. It brought back many memories of the old board. I took it to my local watch guy who after many weeks of waiting told me that the problem was caused by three teeth being broken off on one of the gears. He was able to replace it and now for the first time she is running! I will try and get some pics up as it is a beauty. Anyway I was wondering if there are any of you guys out there who also have one and if they are still running or dead! I am trying to decide whether to wear it or look into trading it for one of the new beauties I see out there now!

Digital Watch for working out

Hey guys, I work out about 4 days/week. I never wear reps to work out in, but I do like to have a digital watch especially if I run. My 10 year old Timex Atlantis watch battery died last week.. and rather than just get a replacement battery, I'm thinking I want a new digital. I've been looking at lots of digitals and this is what I'm looking at getting. Since its my birthday in 3 weeks.. i might ask the wife for this one:

Casio G-shock GW-7900b

This watch really does it for me.. I LOVE the screws on the front and reverse digital display. The chunky look is really great too. Anyone have this watch or seen it in person. Any other models you'd suggest..???

It's a little more expensive ($150 from casio's website) than my 40buck timex.. but looks leauges ahead as far as features and quality are concerned.

watches with Super Super Super Thick crystals

Saw a watch peeking through a guys shirt cuff this morning on the metro. It was familiar looking. the crystal was seriously about 1/2 inch protruding above the bezel. It seriously looks like half of an egg sitting on top of his bezel. It was a vintage style diving watch I'm sure. But i can't seem to find it on here now that i'm searching. It's been irking me all day, since i can't figure out what kind of watch it was and don't recall where i saw one similar on here. I think i remember an old rolex with a crazy crystal like that. Any clues? The crystal is plexi i'm sure.. Suggestions welcome..

Thanks guys!

Miguass, but which one?

To all memebers of the RWG. I wanted to ask you that I want to purchase a Milgrauss. My question is which one should I purchase. I have been told by other memebrs that don't buy something that is new or just arrived on the seller site. Buy something that is on the seller's site for a long time. Which Milgrauss should I go for I don't want something that the watch crown winder comes out after certain period of time. My choices for the dealers are Joshua and Eurotimez. With Joshua I had to cases of Watch crown winder coming off, but Eurotimez has claimed that uptill now we havn't had any cases of watch crown winder coming out. They also have the genuine Swiss ETA movement which you pay additional $50 for it. Please give me you advice I will appreciate. If you have certain watch in mind for any of the recommended dealer, then give me the item or serial number for it. Eurotimex has Milgrauss 116400GV Green whic is the only one on their site and is new in markety. The price is $248, but if you pay $50 more, you will get genuine swiss ETA. Joshua on the other hand different models for Milgauss. Also, what is the difference between the genuine Swiss Eta and the copy ETA. Joshua doesn't have genuine ETA option on his site. This is what he states 000000RLM00102 Milguass SS Blk (Green Sapphire) Swiss Eta 2836. He only states Swiss Eta, he doesn't give option for genuine Swiss Eta.

My watches before the rep world: A Newbie Story

I didn't want to wait for my first rep to arrive before posting, so here is a brief description and pictures of what I had before finding the forum and I will supplement with a review of the speedmaster date black when it arrives.

In brief, helping my friend pick out his graduation gift (among gens) drew me in. I couldn't bring myself to spend 2grand on an omega speedmaster pro, and having found the forum, I didn't like the sub dial spacing issue. With some support of a couple members whom I newbly PM'ed for advice, I found the speedmaster date. It departed Guangzhou yesterday.

Wenger Commando Chronograph - on my wrist everyday for the past 5 years, on the second band, it keeps time fine but you will see the stop watch second hand isn't in the right position. It has been broken, along with the top pusher since year 2.

Tissot Automatic (year model unknown) - never worn this, it has a smooth automatic movement, crappy gold plate band.

Replica Rolex Submariner - probably shouldn't even call this p.o.s. a rep, mom got this for me on canal st. when I was 12 because I told her i dreamed of wearing a rolex sub one day. It stopped running the next day and has been in a drawer in my old bedroom since.

Should have the Speedmaster Date next week - I will write a review and post pics asap.
Did my best with the pics thanks to the tips in the forum. Didn't bother with the Crap-rep, or Crep for short. Is that a used term for bad reps? it should be.

Important Change to the Sales Area Request

While reviewing the sales area, I've noticed for a long time that people have the ability to either remove all information or replace the asking price to SOLD. This is very disappointing to see. For myself, I like to know what the fair market value is for watches being sold here. From a sellers standpoint, it's very convenient to have this information available in that sellers research the forums previous sales to determine if their asking price is in line. Likewise, a buyer can research an item to ensure they are paying a fair price. For sellers to remove this information is a disservice to the community and the forum that allows them to sell here.

Some might argue that when offers are made, the asking price is not accurate. To this, I would suggest that seeing comments and length of time on the board would then be taken into consideration when determining a pricing strategy.

Others might argue that it may not be anyone's business. To that I suggest that if you have a public offering, it is, at least as much as the information that was presented publicly.

There is one other benefit to preventing members from editing their sales posts, which is the ability of the buyer to review the listing once the item is received and the item has been inspected. Discrepancies can then be challenged and protects both the buyer and seller from any misunderstandings.

Removing the ability to edit in the sales area, in my opinion, far outweighs any benefits of keeping it as it is and I urge the admins to consider changing this feature which in the end will provide a more valuable service to the community as a whole.
